Who We Are
The Capital Wing is an all-volunteer non-profit organization located at KCJR, the Culpeper Regional Airport. We are one of 80+ units of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) which maintains the largest collection of flying WWII warbirds in the world. For more information on the CAF click here.
Four of the CAF warbirds are assigned to the Capital Wing.
-
General Motors TBM Avenger, largest and heaviest single-engine bomber of WWII.
-
Stinson OY-1 Sentinel, ours flew combat observation missions art the Battle of Saipan June 1944.
-
Fairchild F24R/UC-61 Forwarder, this type flew anti-submarine patrols off the Atlantic coast in WWII.
-
Vultee BT-13 Valiant, basic trainer which introduced pilots to fighter tactics.

Our mission is simple: keep these warbirds flying to honor the thousands of men and women who built, serviced and flew these vintage airplanes.
What We Do
The Capital Wing has over 100 members from all walks of life. Most are not pilots or mechanics. All have an interest in warbirds, or aviation in general, or WWII. We have member meetings each month at our hangar during the summer months and online during the colder months.

During the winter months our focus is on maintenance of our aircraft and our focus changes to flying the warbirds from April through October at airshows and our own Warbird Showcase events. Our members are involved of every aspect of our events.
